What it usually is
A pilot that will not stay on may be a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot assembly, or a gas valve problem. If the tank is old, replacement may be the better value.
What to do first
If you smell gas, do not relight it: leave the house and call your gas utility. Otherwise, follow the label on the tank only if you are comfortable, or call us.
The flat rate that covers it
- Diagnosis / service call (plumbing or electrical): $79
- Water heater install, 40–50 gal tank (your unit): $500 labor
Bonney Lake is a hilltop city east of Puyallup, made up mostly of newer subdivisions and larger lots. Newer Bonney Lake homes are usually in good shape, so repairs are most often fixtures, water heaters and small electrical work.
