What it usually is
A hum with no spin usually means something is stuck. Freeing a jam sometimes fixes it; if the motor is burnt out or the housing leaks, it needs replacing.
What to do first
Switch the disposal off and unplug it or turn off its breaker before anything else. Never put your hand in the disposal.
