What it usually is
A dead outlet is often a tripped GFCI elsewhere on the circuit, a tripped breaker or a worn-out outlet. Several dead outlets in a row point to the circuit, not the outlet.
What to do first
Press the reset button on nearby GFCI outlets and check the panel for a tripped breaker. If an outlet is hot, sparks or smells burnt, stop using it.
The flat rate that covers it
- Outlet or switch replacement: $129
- GFCI outlet install: $149
- Electrical troubleshooting: $79
Tacoma's North End is mostly older single-family homes on leafy streets, with Craftsman and early-1900s houses that have been updated over the years. Older North End houses often keep some original pipe behind remodeled walls, so it is worth knowing what is actually in the wall before a fixture swap.
