Door will not latch | What it is and what it costs

What it usually is

Seasonal swelling, loose hinges and a strike plate that is no longer aligned are the common causes. This type of fix is small handyman work.

What to do first

Check the hinge screws and see where the latch hits the strike plate. A pencil mark on the latch can show how far off it is.
