Half the house has no power | What it is and what it costs

What it usually is

If the neighbors are fine, it is usually a tripped main or double-pole breaker, a failed breaker, or a loose connection feeding one side of the panel. Because the cause is at the panel, we diagnose it rather than guess.

What to do first

Check whether neighbors are also dark; if so, it is a utility outage. If only your home is affected, do not remove any panel cover. If you can see a tripped breaker without removing anything, switch it fully off and then on once. Unplug sensitive electronics.

The price that covers it

Electrical troubleshooting (diagnosis): $79
