What it usually is
A hum with no spin usually means something is stuck. Freeing a jam sometimes fixes it; if the motor is burnt out or the housing leaks, it needs replacing.
What to do first
Switch the disposal off and unplug it or turn off its breaker before anything else. Never put your hand in the disposal.
The flat rate that covers it
- Garbage disposal replacement (your unit): $249
- Diagnosis / service call (plumbing or electrical): $79
Steilacoom is a small historic waterfront town next to Lakewood, with older homes and a compact downtown. Older Steilacoom homes often have a mix of old and updated pipe and wiring, which is worth a look before we price a change.
